Random House, the world’s largest English language trade book publisher is featured as the cover story in this month’s Modern Material Handling.

The story details the successful design and implementation of their new tilt-tray sortation system that has allowed them to beat their competition to market and reduce order turnaround times by nearly 50%. TransTech Consulting, a Blue Horseshoe company, was originally contracted to develop the technical requirements for the system, generate a Request for Proposal (RFP) and solicit bids from appropriate vendors.

Working collaboratively with the selected provider, Intelligrated, TransTech led the Random House team through the functional design, comprehensive testing and extensive training phases of the project. Additionally TransTech worked with the existing support systems operating in the facility to ensure a seamless integration.

Random House prides itself on having the finest distribution system in the book publishing industry. It was recently named Amazon.com’s “Distributor of the Year” for its efforts on behalf of the third-party publishing clients that are overseen by the Random House Publisher Services group.

Simon and Schuster, one of the world’s largest book publishers has completed the implementation of a voice picking system at their Riverside, NJ fulfillment operations. TransTech Consulting was originally contracted to develop the technical requirements for the system, generate a Request for Proposal (RFP) and solicit bids from appropriate vendors.

TransTech introduced batch picking, cross-aisle picking and bucket brigade picking concepts to the operation generating significant improvements in productivity and throughput resulting in a project payback under one year.
