CARMEL, Ind. – Based in Fort Collins, Colo., New Belgium Brewing Company is a regional craft brewer that has experienced consistent growth in sales volume and SKU’s since its inception in 1991. Now, as the third largest craft brewer in the U.S., New Belgium is nearing capacity at its current manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facilities, and has selected software development and solutions firm, Blue Horseshoe for a comprehensive operational review and implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Blue Horseshoe’s strategy group, TransTech Consulting will evaluate the company’s business requirements to engineer efficient, ergonomic and economical processes throughout the operations including the distribution center and manufacturing environments and generate a long-term strategic plan. To further extend functionality of Dynamics AX, Blue Horseshoe will implement its Warehousing for AX (WAX) and Transportation for AX (TRAX) systems, both part of the Supply Chain Suite for Dynamics AX, a Microsoft Certified for Dynamics AX (CfMD) product. Developed by Blue Horseshoe, WAX embeds advanced supply chain capabilities into Dynamics AX to significantly extend warehousing functionality, while TRAX embeds industry-specific transportation planning and execution functionality. Both systems are embedded directly into the business layer of Dynamics AX’s architecture offering identical performance, processing and file structure as Dynamics AX.

“Our business growth has afforded us wonderful opportunities and has presented us with wonderful challenges,” explained Jay Richardson, Director of Production and IT at New Belgium Brewing Company. “Given Blue Horseshoe’s extensive experience in the beverage industry, we’re confident that our partnership will give us more than just new ERP and WMS systems. Blue Horseshoe’s Warehousing for AX (WAX) now Certified for Microsoft Dynamics AX

CARMEL, Ind. – Carmel-headquartered Blue Horseshoe announces its latest version of Dynamics AX 2.4 Warehousing for AX (WAX) has been successfully Certified for Microsoft Dynamics AX (CfMD), a leading enterprise resource planning software that focuses on manufacturing, e-business, wholesale, and services for midsize and larger companies.

This prestigious certification means this solution has met Microsoft Corporation’s highest standard for partner-developed software solutions; it has been designed to meet unique business and industry needs, tested for integration with the Microsoft Dynamics product, used and recommended by other companies, and professionally implemented and systematically supported.

Part of Blue Horseshoe’s Supply Chain Suite for Dynamics AX, Warehousing for AX (WAX) embeds advanced industry-specific supply chain functionality directly into the business layer of Dynamics AX’s architecture to significantly extend warehousing functionality without using a separate Warehouse Management System (WMS). WAX is a module solution that can be implemented with Dynamics AX alone, or in conjunction with other solutions in the Supply Chain Suite for Dynamics AX, including Transportation for AX (TRAX), Business Intelligences as a Service (BIAS) and Vendor Portal.

Customers choosing to implement WAX benefit from identical performance, processing and file structure as Dynamics AX. No synchronization, batching or reconciliation of data is required. WAX provides systematic visibility of the enterprise’s entire supply chain both inbound and outbound; discrete tracking and reporting of all labor, inventory, order status and facility space within a facility; and it monitors and manages all open work tasks and assignments. WAX also reduces labor, inventory and transportation costs with full inbound capabilities, rule-driven location assignment, advanced picking features, and embedded Radio Frequency (RF) capabilities for all tasks.

Gianni Barkett, chief information officer, Amalie Oil Co. explained, “WAX has truly revolutionized the way we transact business. Its warehouse stocking limit modules and location directive engine are by far the most flexible and scalable WMS features we have ever encountered, and the system’s load templates and load planning workbench have resulted in countless efficiency gains.”

“We are very proud to offer WAX as an accredited warehouse management solution to our customers,” said John Foster, Blue Horseshoe executive vice president, products. “This certification, which required us to meet very rigorous requirements, underscores the value this solution offers companies that warehouse inventory.”

Voice Directed Warehouse Equipment

After yet another dramatically successful implementation, TransTech Consulting believes that Voice Directed Work is possibly the most flexible piece of equipment in the warehouse.

Voice technology has in many ways become the great chameleon of warehouse equipment.

Need something to dramatically improve case picking efficiencies?
Throw on a voice headset… because two hands are always better than one.

…What about a way to handle loose picking complexities?
Throw on a voice headset… Aside from hands-free benefits, you can incorporate a scanner to capture carton ID’s, serial numbers, or lengthy lot codes and if you need to verify the item you’re picking, just ask.  A full description of the item can be voiced into the headset for your convenience, and improved accuracy.

…What if we seem to have outgrown our WMS?
Throw on a voice headset and allow your voice system to fill in the gaps of a less than perfect WMS. While a quality WMS is vital to any highly efficient warehouse, installing a voice solution can in many cases fill those gaps in functionality that you thought required a new WMS. In fact, there are some companies that for some processes have skipped the WMS all together and opted to have their voice solution handle order waving, pick sequencing, and the like.

…and what about training?
Throw on a voice headset and see for yourself. In working with trainers you’ll hear estimates of 1-2 weeks to get comfortable and productive with standard RF equipment. With voice systems users can be up and running in minutes and fully productive in as little as a few hours. Industries that utilize a high degree of temporary labor cringe at the thought of constant turnover and training. With voice technology, training becomes a much simpler endeavor.

… But will my employees like it?
Human nature says “Yes”. Human beings tend to thrive on interaction. We perform better when we are able to interact with others. Research has found that when asked to interact with someone or in this case, some-thing, through listening and spoken responses, we remain sharper and more productive for longer periods of time.

Voice Technology will never load a pallet, count pieces, or seal a carton, it is contributing in big ways to gained efficiencies and flexibility across an ever broadening spectrum of critical processes in the warehouse at large.
